Computer says 'Yes'!

Yesterday I had the dreaded 'I'm going away to travel' conversation. She, as always was lovely and gracious in hearing news that I knew would through her department into disarray. I was nearly certain that it would spell a resignation from the position as 3 months is a really long time to take leave from work. But equally she knows my position and that this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime kind of opportunity.

Long story short - I get to come back to my position at work after I get home! Yay!

I am very excited by the security that this provides and also by the peace of mind I have now, knowing that I have done the professional thing. It's a first for me.

So 5 weeks tonight I fly out.

I am going to miss those I love. They know who they are.
And I think it will offer good thinking and growing time.

It is exciting stuff.

Everyday, it's a-getting closer, going faster than a roller-coaster

Just under 6 weeks to go now. I'm starting to get a bit nervous. Nervous about money and practicalities and loneliness and about my eyes. I'm heading off to Europe for 3 months and it seems that on average my sight is going alltogether for a few hours - day about once a month. I am a bit scared that I will be stuck in some country unable to see... but that isn't going to stop me. I am going to travel to all the countries I want and face this adventure head on. I can't wait.

I have hardly any money but I think the way I'm going to manage this trip will be by getting into the groove of www.couchsurfing.com It's such an awesome philosophy. The premise is to stay with people from around the world, and in exchange host people when they come to your city. I am excited about having this prospect afoot. I am actually really excited about hosting people when I get home!

I am hoping to post here while I am travelling so people from home can read how I'm going and so that I have a record of my trip.
